It's been a while since I've posted anything on the forum, but thought I'd renew posting these here for those not on the facebooks. 3/21 Due to the restrictions made to slow the spread of COVID-19 and flatten the curve, expect all public foos events in the Twin Cities (e.g. tournaments and pick-up games at Mortimer's, Jimmy's Pro Billiards) to be on hiatus until further notice. This currently includes the April MN Monthly, but perhaps we'll be able to delay it for a few weeks. The timeline for return would be based on the best advice and evidence of our public health officials, local elected representatives and the small businesses that both support and rely on us. My thoughts are with Jimmy's, Mort's, their staff, and the rest of the service industry as we weather this storm as a community. We look forward to supporting them soon. Until then, time to defer to the MN Dept of Health, CDC, and the advice of our best health experts and practice some physical distancing, with foosball and otherwise. This is a great time to stay home, remove the laundry off the ol' practice table, and burn some anxiety with 2-bar shots. If all your household doesn't know how to play yet, now's the time to teach! Netflix is losing its luster on day 3. Note, I said physical distancing....but it can also be a time for social solidarity. I'll try to up the content on these forums for those that aren't on facebook. I encourage others to provide content as well, shoot the breeze foosball wise, post pics and give tips. Hoping this update finds you all well, cheers, -Skip https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-news/full-list-all-41-types-of-business-activities-under-mandatory-closure-in-minnesota-because-of-covid-19-outbreak

We had a great turnout on Saturday, with teams from across the state and the midwest. 38 players participated across 2 events with guest foos cameos by Melissa G and Wallis. Regions represented: MN - Twin Cities, Rochester, St. Cloud, Duluth, Stillwater, Mankato/Elysium, Iron Range/Keewatin, WI - Superior, River Falls, New Richmond, IA - Okoboji - IA ND - Grand Forks Early BYP - 18 teams 1st: Bill W/Nate O 2nd: Mark J/Jason B 3rd: Skip/Rick B 4th: Brad S/Nate O Tristin H/Luke B Brazil/Tom D Krinkie/James R Mike E/Tom B Kim K/Jim F Tom N/Steve L John S/Josh B Steve M/Tom H Einer/Connor Ashley/Jack Mike R/Roger L Keith N/Wayne Brian K/Steve L Ringo/Tom B When Ringo and Bersh were sent to an early exist by Steve M and Tom H, the field looked a bit more open. Prepping for their upcoming Foosball Shenanigans event in Okobiji, the Iowa team of Mark and Jason made a B-line for the king seat through some tough teams (Krink/Regan, Brazil/Dolney, Skip/Rick B) on the strength of their impressive team-passing, 3-bar variety and left-hooks. However, Bill's five-bar D and Nate's performance from goal stifled the Iowans in 4 straight to take the final. Congrats to all placers on their strong playing. Late BYP - 15 teams 1st: Brazil/Kim K (DD) 2nd: Tristin H/Chris M 3rd: Ringo/Rick B 4th: L-Bob/Einer Brad S/Nate O Skip/Tom B Steve M/Steve L Krinkie/Dave P Tom H/Jim F Mike E/Tom D Luke B/William W III Wayne A (WI)/Roger L Connor/Tom N Mike R/Keith N Josh B/Jared W I often get questions about whether players will be able to find a partner at the event. Although I can never make guarantees, you never know who might be looking. When Wallis had notify Brazil that he wouldn't make the late Bring in time due to work, suddenly one of our local pro's was on the free agent market. Kim K had driven down with the Duluth crew without a partner and had the chance to step in. They tore through the loser's bracket after a tough first round loss to Brad and Nate O with 6 straight wins, including their rematch to the team that sent them to the wrong side of the bracket, The final was hard fought, going to the 6th game. All players were firing on all cylinders, with many quality shots on display (Kim's cut from back-pin, Chris' kick-shot banks, Tristin's deadbar pulls, and Brazil's off-set snake shot splits early in the count all finding the goal clean) with minimal slop. It came down to the final ball (on a game w/o 'win-by-2' due to time constraints) with a big steal/pass and shot from Brazil to close it. Great playing to all finalists and placers! Thanks to Jimmy and Suzie for hosting, Jessie, Josh, and Jared for help with the brackets, to our new players and out-of-towners for joining us and to all the players for making it a great turnout and event! Horizon: 3/13-15: WI State - Appleton WI 3/20-22: Foosball Shenanigans - Okoboji, IA 3/21: Singles and DYP - Jimmy's Pro Billiards MN 4/24-25: Iron Cup Foosball Tournament - Chisholm MN

A BYP Double Header! What: Two Bring Your Partner Foosball Tournaments! Double Elimination on T-3000 Tornadoes When: Saturday, March 7th Early BYP Sign Ups close at 4:45 pm. First matches called at 5:00 pm. Late BYP Sign Ups close at 7:15 pm. First matches called at 7:30 pm. Where: Jimmy's s Pro Billiards 4040 Central Ave NE Columbia Heights, MN 100% payback** plus $50 kick-in from vendor split across the two main events. $11** entry for BYP $6 BYP entry for -beginners, -female foosers, -those with beginner partners, (foos guru discount) (Beginner status at TD discretion), $5 entry for the DYP for those that go 0-2 in the early bring. - Distinct Partner Double Bring: You must have a different partner in each event if you're playing in both. This is a great opportunity to bring in players we wouldn't otherwise see. I strongly encourage our regular players to recruit out of towners, blast-from-the-past players who we haven't seen in a while, and especially new players (note the handicap below). - Rookie Handicaps: Any team with at least one rookie will have the Appleton point spot system. (1 point the first game, 2 and the ball in the 2nd if they've lost the first, and 1 point in the third game). Let's keep these games fun and competitive. - Early BYP matches will be given priority when the events are running concurrently - Late BYP partner restriction: The same doubles team cannot play both BYP's. Your early BYP partner cannot be your late BYP partner. A great chance to mix it up! Play with your tried and true partner in one, and find someone you've never played with before in the other! As Jimmy's closes at 1 am, I want to ensure we finish before close some race-to-8's may be required in the loser's bracket of the late BYP to ensure a timely finish. **$1 of each entry fee goes to new balls/parts. If you cannot make it by 4:45 for the bring, but can make it before 5:30 pm, contact Skip to let him know you're coming and you can still enter the bring. (Call to enter by 7:15 if you can still make the second bring by 8).

- Saturday Singles/DYP Results - We had an impressive turnout for our Third Saturday Mini-Monthly. (of course it'll need a better name: Saturday Singles Saturnalia? Singles Soiree? Foosball Festivus?)... A mix of new players, out-of-towners (thanks to the Duluth crowd for coming) and stalwart Jimmy's regulars made for a busy night. We just barely squeezed time for both finals, but required a lot of shortened matches. This is the preferred standard format (2/3 DE for both the singles and draw). But future posts will lay out the modified formats on nights with larger turnouts to minimize race to 7's (especially in the finals). Thanks to Josh B, Jared W, and Ben T for helping run the show. Be on the lookout for our next Singles/Draw event on 3/21 (always expect the third Saturday of the month, barring holiday etc). Singles Results - 16 players 1st: Maertz 2nd: Bill W 3rd: Chris M 4th: Tom B Plus: Roger L, Skip S, Ringo, Mike E, Mike R, Keith, Josh B, Steve M, Jerry, Will F, Connor, Tom N DYP Results - 12 teams 1st: Tom B/Dave P 2nd: Tom M/Tristin H 3rd: Chris M/Roger L Skip S/Mike R Mo A/Rick B Jordan P/Jared W Ben T/Tom N Bill W/Nate O Connor/Jerry Mike E/Will F Steve M/Keith N Doug B/Josh B

28 players participated across two events last night for the February MN Monthly. Although a slightly lighter turnout (some out sick, some Super Bowl party planning, some night-ice-fishing), we had a great group of foosers from across the region. Regions represented: MN: Twin Cities, St. Cloud, Stillwater, Rochester, Floodwood, Duluth, Keewatin/Iron Range WI: Hudson, Superior IA: Arnolds Park BYP Results - 12 teams 1st: William W III/Nate O (DD) 2nd: Stu S/Wallis 3rd: Skip S/Tom D 4th: Mo A/John W Krinkie/Deb PK Mike R/Roger L Tony M/Wayne A Matt H/Steve M Colby M/Keith N Tom N/Josh B Mike E/Brian K Two former MN Monthly champs got knocked out of the money in surprise upsets. Recent Twin Ports Champs Doug and Bersh had their hands full with a first round match against Bill and Nate O. They left that loss bruised but not broken and started working their way through the loser's bracket with two straight wins hoping for a rematch....only to be stopped by the night's giant slayers, Mo and John. The January Monthly champs, the Krinkies, also had an early exit with losses to Mo/John and Skip/Tom D. Stu and Wallis had an impressive king seat win, but were outlasted in the second set as Bill and Nate second Monthly win in 4 months. Congrats gentlemen! Rondo DYP - 10 teams 1st: Tom B/Roger L 2nd: William W III/John W 3rd: Ringo/Tom N Nate O/Connor M Mo A/Keith N Mike R/Spencer L Skip S/Dave P Mike E/Steve M Josh B/Matt H Wallis/Will With four new tournament players, we added a new Appleton-style handicap to the DYP which kept many of the games competitive and saw (thanks to Bill for improving the handicap system). Any team with a new player got a one-point spot in game 1, 2-point spot (and ball) in game 2 if they lost game 1, and a one-point spot in game 3. I hope to implement this in format in many future draws with the plan that players keep that handicap until they WIN a tournament. With the help of their veteran partners, two new players, Connor and Tom N made it deep in the bracket . Roger L kept to his winning ways at Jimmy's, as he and Tom B staved off a tough Rondo 1-2 of John and Bill in the second set. Congrats gents! Thank you's: Thanks to Jimmy, Suzie and their staff for hosting, to Bill, Josh, Gillian, and Wallis for help running the event, to the out of towners for making the trip, and our new players, Tom N, Connor, Spencer, and Will for joining us. We hope to see you on the table again soon! Thanks to everyone for coming and making the event a success. I'll be posting a poll on Facebook to determine the follow-up event for the March monthly. Happy foosin'.

31 players participated across three events last night, with cameos by Josh N and Jessie D. Great to have an Iron Range and Mankato migration to help us kick off the new year. That's what helps make the MN Monthly great. It becomes an opportunity for players to regularly compete against those from across the state and region. BYP Results: 14 Teams 1st: Krinkie/Deb PK 2nd: James R/Tristin H 3rd: Ringo/Tom B 4th: Skip/Wallis EB/Nate O Terry S/Steve M Luke B/Scott L William W III/John W Jordan P/Josh B Gabe G/Roger L Shaun S/Trapper Trevan S/Adarsh K Steve L/Ben T Trevan S/Brad D Former Twin Ports and Thanksgiving Champs Ringo and Bursh gave both our Iron Rangers and Johnny Lott champs a trip to the elimination bracket to put them in the winners bracket final, but 2020 started as the year of the Krinkies. The bracket seeding threw some tough competition at Twin Cities' elite Foos Family, but they outplayed them all 5-0 for a great start to the 2020 season. Knocked in the loser's bracket in the first round by the Krinkies, James and Tristin won their own five straight to earn their rematch in the final, but the Krinks closed it out in game 3 of the first set. Nice win, Chad and Deb, and congrats to all the placers in a tough field. Lott's Revenge DYP Results Early Bracket - 7 teams 1st: Shaun S/Brad D (DD) 2nd: Ben T/Roger L 3rd: Gabe G/Adarsh K Trapper/Jordan P Mike E/Trevan S Gene O/Steve L Jared W/Brad D Late Bracket - 6 teams 1st: EB/Nate O 2nd: Skip S/Scott L 3rd: Tristin H/Tom B John W/Dave P Wallis/Ringo Luke B/William W III We split the Johnny Lott draw into two separate brackets to prevent delays due to conflicts. It was definitely the right call as things went very smoothly, we had more placers/deeper payouts and both DYP finals wrapped up around or before midnight. The Lott's Revenge format brings out some of the prettiest and ugliest plays from our players. With set pulls, roll-overs, and more out of the 3-bar equation, it gives strong goalies an opportunity to put shut-down games together, and forwards an opportunity to showcase some more creative and impressive shots. Other times, the key is just to win the slop-battle since goalies are going to be getting a piece of far more shots. Highlight shots I witnessed: - John's double-wammy slingshot from pull position - Wallis' rolling pull frankenstein right out of a pass. - Dave P three-for-three on long push-kicks. - EB's pull-kick long. Still the shot to beat in any given Lott's Revenge event. Congrats to Shaun, Brad, EB and Nate on their wins. Thank You's - Thanks to Jimmy, Sue and co for hosting the event, to EB for co-TD-ing and to Jessie, Bill, and Jared for help running the event. Thanks to our special out of town guests (Shaun, Gabe, Trapper, Roger, Trevan, Steve L, Brad D, Trevan, Ringo, and more) for making the trip, and to all the players for shopwing up and making for a great event. Please contact me if you're interested in being a part of the Winter League as we're still forming teams, and see you at the next Monthly! Horizon: - Tues 1/7 League Warm-up at Mort's - Sat 1/18 Trial Singles and DYP Monthly event at Jimmy's - Sat 1/25 BYP and DYP in Duluth (standard DYP at Jimmy's) - Sat 2/1 February MN Monthly - Tues 2/11: Foosballers Mpls Film Screening

5 teams consisting of 20 players participated in the fifth annual Minnesota Cup of Table soccer. Welcome to new Cup participants Mo A, Uday, Adarsh, Anu, and Wallis. The Teams: Team 1: Chris M, Krink, Mo A, Brad S (captn) aka 'Final Score Zombies' Team 2: Jared W, Mike E, Trevan S, EB (captn) aka 'Team Morts Smack' Team 3: Bill W, Dave G, Tristin H, John W (captn) Team 4: Bombo, Rick B, Wallis, Skip (captn) aka 'Habitat for Foos-anity' Team 5: Anu, Adarsh, Goot, Uday (captn) The Qualifiers... The qualifying round consisted of a Round Robin style Battle Royale of standard team doubles and singles, plus doubles and singles triathlon formats. We ended the qualifier after four rounds due to time constraints**, but saw tons of upsets, comebacks, 4-4 balls and Team Rondo 3rd game deciders. (** Somehow we got four rounds in with 7 teams last year!) Some highlights from the Quallfiers: - Jared's singles win v. Krink. - Bombo's push-kick split on 4-4 putting John's team on their heels in the first round. - Uday and Adarsh's speedball upset v. Krink and Brad. - EB's Game 3 Team Rondo Forward Shootout win v. John's team . - Brad's Team Rondo win vs. Habitat for Foosanity to guarantee their place in the finals. - Anu's rolling pull in Johnny Lott The Finals.... The final consisted of a best of three sets. Sets being 2/3 games (fooser's choice between Team Doubles, Singles, Doubles Tri or Singles Tri); any Cup-deciding game would be played Team Rondo style. Both teams kept with Team Doubles. In all three sets, Rick and I came out swinging regardless of the opponent, but Brad's team repeatedly responded winning the second game, forcing 3 team rondo rubber matches. Wallis was the difference-maker in both the 1st set win and the final Cup-winning point, both with a lights-out pull-kick performance as a forward and a pull spray from back to claim the Cup. Definitely the most competitive final since the great Shades of Gray win of 2016. Thanks to my teammates and congrats to Brad's team on an impressive and hard-fought final. Your names wait to be emblazoned on the cup in 2020. MN Cup Results: (5 teams, 20 players) 1st: Habitat for Foos-anity Wallis: Bombo, Rick B, Skip (captn) 2nd: Final Score Zombies: Krinkie, Mo A, Chris M, Brad S (captn) Thanks to all who helped make the 2019 MN Cup a success. It is a tough event to run, but I always appreciate the sportsmanship, strategy, team-building, and diverse foos talent that the event brings out from players throughout the region. 2020 MN Cup team recruiting begins at the next MN Monthly 1/4/20!

2019 Thanksgiving DYP Results 54 players from across the state and beyond joined us at Jimmy's for a great night of foos and friends. Regions represented: - Twin Cities, St. Cloud, Mankato, Duluth/Twin Ports, Iron Range, Milwaukee, Stillwater, River Falls, Grand Rapids, Results: 27 teams 1st: John W/Skip S 2nd: Krink/Deb PK 3rd: Jansen/Jared W 4th: Jamie K/Matt S 5th/6th: Wallis/Zahn 5th/6th: Ringo/Brian K 7th/8th: Luke B/Tom B 7th/8th: Stu S/Nate C Jared T/EB Clif H/Jordan C Brad S/Mo A James R/Scott L Tony M/Dave P Zach S/Jordan P Myles M/Uday Bill W/Anu Bailey/Steve L Maertz/Mike E Lenny/Melissa G Duane H/Jim R Justin K/Gene O Tom D/Daniel V Alec V/Zachary C Steve M/Nate O Ben T/Rick B Chris M/Whales Brad A/Justin F Jansen, Jared, Jamie and Matt had some great nail-biters to get them to the final four, so understandably their match went to the third game. Jansen and Jared earned their rematch against the Krinks, but came up short as Krink and Deb attempted their own rematch, losing king seat on meat-nut. The final saw alternating 5-1 victories by each teams, but John and I closed it in the first set as two of my 2-bar banks went in off Deb's goalie. Highest Placing Beginner: Jordan C (w/Clif H as his master coach and partner) Thanks to Jimmy's, Suzie and their staff for hosting, Jesse, Jared and John for help running the bracket, Brad S and Clif for providing the 5th table, and all the players for coming out sharing their jokes, stories and talent on the table with us. Many players appreciate this big MN foos-together as a great time to reconnect with old friends from across the region they rarely get to see otherwise. Thanks for keeping this great tradition alive and thriving. Finally, we are thankful for our memories and time on earth with Neil Senogles (1958-2019) who passed away of natural causes earlier this week. Neil was a fixture in Northern MN foos, a kind presence at our events and a great competitor on the table. Our thoughts and hearts are with Seth and Neil's family. RIP Neil. Foos season continues on Saturday December 7th! Hope to see many of you on Sat 12/7 for the MN Cup and MN Monthly BYP. Time to get your team together! https://www.minnesotafoosball.com/events/minnesota-cup-2019

---- Nov 2019 MN Monthly Results --- 24 players participated across three events yesterday for the Nov Monthly. Potts returns with one of his trademark blast-from-the-past goalies as Haar makes an appearance, Gene O comes down warming up for Thanksgiving, and Wayne and Roger come back down from Twin Ports as Roger continues his streak of placing on Saturdays at Jimmy's. BYP Results - 10 teams 1st: William W III/Nate O 2nd: Mo A/Gene P 3rd: John W/Rick B Potts/Ray H Skip S/Tom B Tony M/Wayne A Ben T/Jared W Gene O/Chris G Dan D/Steve M Wayne A (WI)/Roger L Gene P and Mo made their presence felt with some giant-slaying against John and Rick, and the surging Potts and Ray burning through the loser's side. However, they didn't have an answer for the team that sent them there as Bill and Nate won in the first set. No-Conflict Singles - 7 players 1st: Skip S (DD) 2nd: Chris M 3rd: Roger L Gene O Scott L Wayne A (WI) Josh B Tom B Both Chris and I were trading 2-bar shots in both the king seat match and final. His patented Frankenstein earned him king seat. We shortened the second set to a race to 7 for time. It had a fair share of slop, but Chris forced a 6-6 point with a great drive-by-esque 5-bar to 3-bar pick up. Struggling to man the goalie and 2- rob with my left hand, I finally stuffed one of Chris' lethal 2-bar shots for the ugly win. Great games, Chris! MN Shuffle DYP - 7 teams 1st: Skip S/Roger L 2nd: William W III/Gene P 3rd: John W/Nate O Tom B/Chris M Ben T/Wayne A (WI) Uday/Josh B Scott L/Gene O As the bring wrapped up, we got to shuffling. This Shuffle was characterized by an unlikely number of preserving the team line-ups after the shuffle. Of the 9 shuffles that occurred, 5 re-shuffled to the same teams (beating the 1 in 3 odds). The beneficiaries? Gene P/John W, Nate O/Bill, Tom B/Chris M and Roger and Me (move still on the way) who all won multiple straight via the non-shuffle. Thanks to Jimmy's and their staff for hosting and to all the players for coming out. See you at... The Thanksgiving Draw Wed 11/27 and The MN Cup on the December Monthly 12/7. (both at Jimmy's)

The Follow-up Formats: No-Conflict Singles: This event is meant for those eliminated early from the bring or as a warm-up event for late arrivals for the dyp. It will run double elim (race to 7 in the loser's) if 8 players or less, otherwise single elim. MN Shuffle DYP This is a form of 'every player for themselves' hyper-draw invented by Tony Mason. The draw works as follows: The first round of the bracket is drawn up exactly like a standard DYP. As teams advance (in either side of the bracket), they have a coin toss to determine the new teams between the four players meeting at that point in the bracket. For example, if a team comprised of A and B wins its first match and meets up with C and D in the next round of the bracket, those four players then toss coins in a four-player mini-draw to determine the new teams for that match in the bracket. (You have a 1 in 3 chance of ending up with your most recent partner). The finals gives an advantage to king-seat only if the two players coming from the winner's bracket draw each other again in the coin toss (though there'd be another shuffle if it goes to a 2nd set, when all bets are off!).

32 players participated across 2 events last night with the return of the Draft to the MN Monthly. Cameo appearances by Gillian M, Jansen, Bruce VanB, pool sharks John S and Doug M, and Mo's entourage (his friend, Chris and wife, Nazli). Thanks to all for coming, especially our many travelers from up north (Duluth/Twin Ports, Grand Forks and the Iron Range all represented including Trapper's first appearance at the Monthly). BYP Results 14 Teams 1st: Tristin H/Chris M 2nd: Potts/Stu S 3rd: Tony M/Wayne A 4th: Krink/Clif H Skip S/Rick B Brad S/John W Kim K/Rob B Steve M/Dave P Nate O/Gene P Jordan P/Mo A Ben T/Nick E Trapper/Mike E Tony S/Mike R Wayne A (WI)/Roger L Mostly restricting himself to Monthlies with a regular partnership with Wayne, Tony M made the most of his time on the table making it into the money and the loser bracket final. Potts and Stu became a dangerous last-minute addition to the bracket (as Potts finished his dishwasher install at home with just minutes to spare). However, even that high-power team couldn't keep Tristin and Chris from back-to-back wins with strong shooting and stellar defense. Congrats guys! Draft Selection Results 1st pick: Nate O selected by Tristin H 2nd pick: Skip S selected by Rick B 3rd pick: John W selected by Mike R 4th pick: Krinkie selected by Dave P 5th pick: Ben T selected by Jordan P 6th pick: Steve M selected by Tony S 7th pick: Chris M selected by Tony M 8th pick: Justin F selected by Roger L 9th pick: Gene P selected by Rob B 10th pick: Kim K selected by Zachary 11th pick: Clif H selected by Nick E 12th pick: Mike E selected by Trapper 13th pick: Wayne A selected by Uday UDA team: Jordan C and Anu Nate O and Ben T were the top goalies selected with the 1st and 5th picks respectively, both paying off into the money (and facing off in a late night race-to-7 game for 3rd or better). After having to face off against him as a tough opponent in the bring, Mike R made a great 3rd overall pick with John W who helped him (through coaching and strong forward play) to a the King Seat. Only a few players made the 'sentimental-yet-strategic' choice of drafting their bring partner (including Tony reuniting with his former common bring partner Chris M). Draft Your Partner Tourney Results 14 Teams 1st: Skip/Rick B (DD) 2nd: John W/Mike R 3rd: Jordan P/Ben T 4th: Tristin H/Nate O Tony M/Chris M Gene P/Rob B Roger L/Justin F Krinkie/Dave P Steve M/Tony S Clif H/Nick E Kim K/Zachary Jordan C/Anu Mike E/Trapper Uday/Wayne A (WI) Rick and I came out swinging, winning the first set in 2 games. John and Mike immediately took back the moment by winning the first game of the second set. It had to come to this: a meat-nut 3rd game second set ball. Rick B had the crucial block and passed up to my 3. A walking rollover unintentionally cut-back for the win. Thanks to Rick for a having faith in my after a BYP slump, and great playing! Congrats to Tristin, Chris and Rick on the victories and to all the placers for strong performances. Thanks to Jimmy, Suzie and co for being great hosts and great food. Thanks to John, Tristin, Potts, Steve, Dave and everyone else that helped the brackets run smoothly. Thanks to Gillian for help with the Draft and the lovely bracket, and to all the players for showing up and making for a great event. - Horizon - Hope to see you at....
